Dr Aodh Quinlivan’s fifth book, The Freedom of Cork: A Chronicle of Honour is now available in all good book shops and was officially launched in the historic council chamber of Cork City Hall on Thursday 21st of November 2013. The book, published by The Collins Press, traces the history of the coveted award which dates back to the 14th century. There are many famous people on Cork’s most prestigious roll of honour including Jonathan Swift, Isaac Butt, Charles Stewart Parnell, William Gladstone, Andrew Carnegie, Douglas Hyde, Woodrow Wilson, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Éamon de Valera, Jack Lynch, Thomas ‘Tip’ O’Neill, Mary Robinson, John Hume, Sonia O’Sullivan, Roy Keane, Michael Flatley and John Major.
Aodh was ably assisted on the book project by Pádraig Mac Consaidín, a fourth year BSc Government student. Pádraig did invaluable research and wrote many of the profiles in the book.
