Postgraduate Diploma in German Studies


The aim of this Postgraduate Diploma in German Studies is to offer an alternative award for successful completion of the coursework only for the MA in German Studies without requiring submission of the minor thesis. Upon successful completion of the coursework for the Postgraduate Diploma students may opt to register for the MA and complete the dissertation.

 

Course Content

The programme focuses on different areas by choosing one of two programme pathways: 

Pathway 1 (Literature - Art - Media - Theatre - Film)

or Pathway 2 (Language, Drama and Intercultural Pedagogy).

Students take 60 credits (see details under the MA in German Studies entry)

 

Entry Requirements


In order to be admitted to the Postgraduate Diploma programme in German Studies, a candidate should normally have at least a Second Class Honours, Grade II, BA (Hons) degree, BCL (Law and German), BComm European (German) or equivalent, along with sufficient German language competence (reading ability of literary texts). Applicants without a degree in German may be required to pass a language test.


Note:  Students will be asked to indicate their chosen pathway at application stage.  A mix of subject choice to the value of 20 Credits may be taken from pathway 1 and pathway 2, as approved by the Graduate Studies Committee.
