Masterclass with film director Emmanuel Finkiel

28 Feb 2019

There will be a Masterclass with Emmanuel Finkiel, hosted by the French Department UCC, and presented by Dr Mary Noonan, on Monday 11 March, 11am-1pm, in the Seminar Room of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, Ground Floor, O’Rahilly Building, UCC.

Director: Emmanuel Finkiel / 2018

Dates/Time: Thursday March 7th at 4.15pm + Sunday March 10th at 4pm (Special Event) / 126 minutes / subtitled / colour

Set in Nazi-occupied France in 1944, Marguerite (Mélanie Thierry) is an active Resistance member alongside husband writer Robert Antelme. When Antelme is deported to Dachau by the Gestapo, Marguerite befriends French collaborator Rabier (Benoît Magimel) to gain information on her husband’s whereabouts. Marguerite waits in vain for Antelme’s return until finally as others return and he does not, she must confront the unimaginable – what Finkiel describes as ‘the presence of absence... withdrawing into oneself, an interior voyage’.

AWARDS & FESTIVALS: 8 nominations for the 2019 Césars.

Q&A: We warmly welcome director Emmanuel Finkiel as our special guest to introduce his film, and host a Q&A post-screening, Sunday 10th March.
