New book by Jonathan Stock
We are pleased to announce the publication of Jonathan Stock's new book, co-written with Chou Chiener, Everyday Musical Life among the Indigenous Bunun, Taiwan.
The distinctive multipart vocal traditions of the Bunun, such as the sung prayer pasibutbut, are relatively well known among ethnomusicologists, but this study presents its consultants not so much as bearers of timeless tradition but rather as contemporary people who inhabit a broad range of present-day contexts and surroundings, and who turn to music of many kinds in those settings.
