The UCC Choir, directed by Eva McMullen Glossop, brings our series to a close with this final, unforgettable concert. Renowned performers Lisa Lambe and Steve Cooney join the choir for a celebration of Irish music and culture.

Lisa, hailed by The Irish Times as “the finest singer and actor of her generation,” offers a rich tapestry of traditional folk songs and stories, while Steve, celebrated for his groundbreaking guitar style and deep connection to Irish music, adds his masterful artistry. Together, they promise a fitting and extraordinary finale to our series, blending voices, tradition, and virtuosity in perfect harmony. 

LISA LAMBE

Lisa Lambe is one of Ireland’s best-known actors, ballad singers, folklorists, performers and interpreters of song.The Irish Times hailed her the ‘finest singer and actor of her generation’.

Lisa is touring nationally and internationally, from Bere Island, to the National Concert hall to the Yoko Ono Centre in Liverpool, with her new self made projects ‘Nightvisiting’ and ‘Mamó’ both of which are based on research of old traditional folk songs, folklore and stories of Ireland. She has been touring this work since 2022 beginning with the National Famine Museum. Highlights already for 2025 sees Lisa perform for Tradfest, FUAIM UCC at the Aula Maxima, and Lisa will also take to the stage with the Crosshaven Choir and Eva McMullan Glossop in March this year.

Lisa has created many soundtracks for movies, radio & television, often performing at home with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and many acclaimed Irish and International artists including Martin Hayes, Steve Cooney, Damien Dempsey, José Carreras, Glen Hansard, Moya Brennan, Paul Brady, The Horslips, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Sean Keane, Eddi Reader, Cáit O’Riordan and many more.

Lisa he has been Billboard World Artist of The Year in the World Music Charts for six consecutive years with EMI/Capitol Records as her label. Internationally, as a recording artist she has performed in venues including Radio City New York, Red Rocks Colorado, Glastonbury, Trafalgar Square, and Irish Arts Centres in New York & Paris & London and most recently at The Yoko Ono Lennon Concert Hall, Liverpool, Celtic Connections and Tradfest Dublin.

Lisa released her fourth original songwriting solo album in 2023, following on from the critically acclaimed ‘Juniper’ with Rough Trade records and with her first album made in Sound Emporium, Nashville.

Lisa is the official Irish National Anthem singer for the FAI ( Football Association Ireland) singing live from the Aviva Stadium, and she is also the Anthem singer for Notre Dame American Football Classics.

Steve Cooney Biog

Steve Cooney is best known for his development of an influential style of guitar accompaniment to traditional Irish dance
music which he developed in West Kerry, and for which he won the National Entertainment Award with Séamus Begley in 1997.

Born in Melbourne Australia in 1953, he came to Ireland in 1980 and maintains his connections with the Aboriginal culture there, into which he was initiated. He has ancestral links with Tipperary, Cavan and Galway.

He has participated in making more than 250 CD's, either as a guitar or bass player or as producer and engineer. Also a poet and songwriter, he has worked with many iconic international artists in rock and country music but his primary focus is Irish traditional music, and fusions of that genre.

He recently released a CD of solo guitar interpretations of ancient harp tunes, Ceol Ársa Cláirsí: Tunes of the Irish Harpers for Solo Guitar. He is also recording fusion music with his band Éiníní.

He completed a Ph.D. in 2018 at NCAD on an intuitive musical notation system that he developed for early learners and those who experience difficulties with staff notation, and he lectures in tertiary institutions on the calculation of harmony and syncopation.

In 2020 he was given the RTÉ Folk Awards 'Lifetime Achievement' Award.
