Clearing the air at UCC: A photovoice project
This is a student-based photovoice exhibit on the limitations of the current smoking policy at UCC.
You are invited to the launch event of a “photovoice” exhibit, conducted by UCC students and facilitated by visiting US Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Christopher M. Seitz, to UCC’s Department of Epidemiology & Public Health. At the launch, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with the student photographers. The photovoice exhibit will focus on the limitations of the current smoking policy at UCC. Photovoice is a photographic, qualitative method of conducting community-based participatory research (CBPR) in hope of having participants’ “voice” heard by others to affect change. Specifically, participants photograph their community’s strengths and needs regarding a certain health issue. Then, the photos are critically analysed and later serve as a visual platform alongside written captions at public exhibits for participants to inform members of the community and policymakers about the health issues documented in the photos.
