Information on opportunities for staff and students with Fulbright

UCC Research Support Services Information Session: Fulbright Awards 2012-2013 Time: 4-5pm Date: Wednesday 26th October Location: G08, Western Gateway Building UCC Research Support Services is hosting an Information Session on the Fulbright Awards programme. These awards provide opportunities for Irish students and academics across ALL DISCIPLINES to study, research and lecture in the US. Fulbright Awards include a monetary grant, visa administration, accident and emergency insurance and cultural and professional programs while in the US. In addition, funding is also available from the Fulbright Programme to bring US students and academics to Ireland, providing an excellent opportunity to develop new collaborations and gain the benefit of hosting top US researchers in UCC. The Information Session will include presentations from Fulbright Ireland staff and previous awardees will also be present to share their experiences. Please register your interest by contacting: uccresearch@ucc.ie A summary of current Fulbright Awards is available below: A. What’s available for UCC researchers/students interested in going to the US? 1. Fulbright Student Awards: These awards are available for postgraduate study or research in the United States. Postgraduate degree / conduct independent research e.g. as part of their Irish / European PhD programme. Grants are awarded averaging $18,500 up to a maximum of €20,000 and the minimum stay is 6 months. 2. Fulbright Scholar and Professional Awards: These awards support academics, post-doctoral researchers or professionals with more that 5-7 years experience to spend 3-12 months researching or lecturing in the US. Grants are awarded averaging $6,000 up to a maximum of $20,000 and the minimum stay is 3 months. 3. Fulbright Irish Language Awards: These awards support scholar/professional to lecture or lecture / research 3-9 months. Awards have a maximum value of €50,000. The Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship Awards (FLTA) fund 10 months of post-graduate study and Irish language teaching in the US (Value: approx. €20,000). Deadline for the above awards: 12pm, 18 November B. Want to bring US researchers to UCC? 1. Fulbright US Scholar Awards: These awards allow US scholars to come to Ireland to research/teach for 3-12 months. Schools, Centres or Departments interested in hosting a US scholar for the 2012 academic year should request further information and an application form from admin@fulbright.ie Deadline: 12pm, 29 October 2. Fulbright Specialist Awards; These provide US academics and professionals with opportunities to collaborate with counterparts in Ireland in certain academic disciplines for a period of 2 – 6 weeks. The host institution provides the US researcher with accommodation, meals and travel in Ireland If you are interested in hosting a Fulbright Specialist should request further information and an application form from admin@fulbright.ie Deadline: 12pm, 30 November 3. Fulbright Inter-Country Awards: These allow Irish institutions to bring a US Fulbright Scholar currently in another European country to Ireland for 1 week to lecture and/or collaborate with relevant colleagues. Please contact the Research Office or the Fulbright Office for a list of US Fulbright Scholar’s currently based in Europe and the application form.
