Teaching and Learning

Promoting intercultural communication in teaching

You are invited to this seminar, hosted by Ionad Bairre and delivered by Claire Dorrity (Applied Social Studies); Angela Flynn (School of Nursing and Midwifery) and Matt Cannon, ‘Dorus Luimni’ (a migrants’ rights NGO).

This seminar intends to explore the benefits of intercultural training and how this can enhance and build on staff and students’ working relationships through developing new areas of training within teaching and practice settings. It aims to provide essential learning points and interactive resources that will enable participants to work competently in intercultural settings. The primary aim is to respond to the growing need of students in developing their knowledge and capacity to appropriately deal with and accommodate diversity in their practice settings. The seminar also aims to equip participants with knowledge and understanding to help contribute to better practice in intercultural relations both in teaching and practice settings. It aims to help participants to examine personal and professional values, attitudes and behavioural practices in relation to diversity, difference and equality. The seminar will encourage a reflection on what types of behaviour or practices undermine equality and dignity at work and look at how these situations might change through individual and collective action within institutions. You are welcome to come to all or part of the session. A light lunch will be available from 12.15. For those unable to attend in person, this seminar will be streamed live at: http://panopto.ucc.ie/Panopto/Pages/Viewer/Default.aspx?id=a8bd439b-ccb5-4265-920e-56785e7b63b5
