Recognising and valuing prior learning
What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and how it can be used in the formal education setting.
Workshop presented by Phil O'Leary, CIT. Phil has supported the provision of Recognition of Prior Learning within Cork Institute of Technology for seventeen years. Her day to day routine involves mentoring students with RPL case preparation and providing support for staff with assessment of these cases. She is currently preparing her proposal towards research for a PhD. Her research interests include RPL, work based learning, e portfolios, capturing and valuing learning and researching ways to promote the activation of the learner in documenting non formal and informal learning Today Phil will explain what Recognition of Prior Learning is, describe how it can be used in the formal education setting and outline the CIT model of provision. She will also provide an insight to recent research in RPL which she undertook to complete her MA studies. All welcome to this talk to hear Phil's experiences of RPL and share with her UCC's experiences of RPL.
