Teaching and Learning

Erin and Iran

Though at first glance, these two countries’ heritages seem poles apart, this conference will explore the multiple comparatives and encounters between both lands

from parallel heroic themes in Indo-European narratives to Orientalism and Persian poetry at the turn of the twentieth century in Ireland to women’s rights in Iran and Ireland. Speakers include: Professor Joseph Nagy, UCLA; Professor Olga Davidson, Boston University; Dr Moya Carey, Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Dr Oliver Scharbrodt, UCC. A draft programme is attached and a finalised one will follow very shortly. The conference is a public event. All are welcome to attend. No registration is required and admission is free. The conference has been jointly organised by Professor Houchang Chehabi, Boston University/Harvard and by Professor Grace Neville, UCC. The assistance of Professor Fan Hong and the School of Asian Studies is gratefully acknowledged.
