‘Clickers’: Using Personal Response Systems in (or out of) the classroom by Professor Paul Callanan, Department of Physics, UCC

Sharing ideas and experiences of in-class voting systems.

Maintaining student engagement, particularly with complex material, presents the lecturer with several challenges. In addition, it can be difficult to rapidly access the degree to which the student group has assimilated new information, particularly for large classes. In-class voting systems (PRS) provide a means of addressing these issues, turning the lecturing "process" into a real-time, two way interaction between student and lecturer. During this seminar Professor Callanan will discuss and demonstrate two such voting systems - one relying on dedicated hand-held devices, the other on mobile phones.
