UCC World Water Day

In celebration of World Water Day (WWD), UN Environment GEMS/Water CDC is hosting a day of water-related events! Wear blue on 22 March to raise awareness of WWD!

UN Environment GEMS/Water Capacity Development Centre (located in the Environmental Research Institute) along with UCC Green Campus has planned a wonderful day of events for World Water Day 2018 (WWD). This World Water Day, we are encouraging everyone to wear blue to turn UCC blue! The quadrangle will be lit up with blue lights in the evening as well, so be sure to match it! From 11 am - 3 pm, we will have a set of interactive water displays in Áras na Mac Léinn. There will be a water quality monitoring demonstration, an interactive water footprint booth, and UCC Health Matters will be discussing the health benefits of water. At 1:10 pm, a representative from Cork Nature Network will be leading a river walk to explore biodiversity in the River Lee. With luck, you might see signs of the animal of interest - otters! At 6:30 pm, Dr Simon Harrison of the School of BEES will be giving a lecture titled "Towards nature-based solutions to river pollution and flooding" which ties in directly with this year's WWD theme: The Answer is in Nature.
