iFightDepression: E-Self-Management of Depression

The Seminar will launch the iFightDepression online self-management programme for mild to moderate depression, alongside presentations and discussions on depression.

The National Suicide Research Foundation is organising a free Launch Seminar, ‘iFightDepression: E-Self- Management of Depression in the Context of Current and Future Mental Health Programmes’ on Wednesday the 25th of June from 3pm – 5.30pm in the Western Gateway Building of University College Cork (Room 1.07), with a coffee and tea reception at 2.30pm. The Seminar is free of charge to attend and all are welcome. The Seminar will involve the official launch of the iFightDepression tool, a free internet-based, guided self- management programme for individuals with mild to moderate depression that was developed as part of the EU-funded project, PREDI-NU (“Preventing Depression and Improving Awareness through Networking in the EU”). The iFightDepression tool was developed based on existing evidence and best-practice and has been successfully implemented and evaluated in 5 European regions, including Cork. The tool aims to encourage self-management of depression and to promote recovery, with the guidance of trained GPs or mental health professionals. The iFightDepression tool will be officially launched by Kathleen Lynch T.D., Minister for Disability, Equality, Mental Health and Older People. The Seminar will also involve presentations, a Panel Discussion and open Question and Answer sessions with leading professionals and national representatives from primary care and mental health services. The Programme will include discussion of enhanced care of depression and suicide prevention, interventions for individuals with depression and suicidal behaviour in the context of primary care and mental health services, and the potential of e-health resources in promoting positive mental health.
