Facing AIDS: The time is Now!
AIDS is not over. Instead, the face of AIDS is changing. Increasingly, AIDS has a female face. Globally we have failed to protect women from becoming infected. In Sub Saharan Africa, 72% of 15-24 year olds living with HIV are women.
Presenter is Mildred Macharia who is a Kenyan woman living positively with HIV. Mildred's baby daughter became very ill and died at the age of 5; her husband died soon after. Mildred was victimised by her own and her husband's family. Since 1999, Mildred has volunteered as a supporter for women living with HIV and has lobbied on behalf of all Kenyans living with HIV. A trained lawyer, Mildred now works with the Kenyan tribunal for the rights of people living with HIV.
