Career pathway: my experience so far - Maria Boyce, Clinical Audit Analyst

After completing a Masters in Economics (Health and Evaluation studies), Maria worked as a researcher for a number of years with the Irish Society for Quality and Safety in Healthcare. Maria completed a PhD through the HRB Scholars Programme in Health Services Research (currently known as SPHeRE). The title of her thesis was ‘The effectiveness of using Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) in improving the quality of care’. After her PhD, Maria worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health on the SIREN project, and in 2014, took up the position of a Clinical Audit Analyst in the Bon Secours Hospital Cork. Maria will be starting a new position of Health Information Programme Coordinator with HIQA in April 2017. The role will involve developing recommendations around how performance/indicator data is collected, shared and reported in Ireland. She will be working to drive improvements in the way this information is governed and used within the country.
