Mapping and categorization of published burden of disease studies in Europe

Mapping and categorization of published burden of disease studies in Europe

Mark O’Donovan is a final year public health undergraduate studying at University College Cork. Last year he worked as an intern for a three month period at the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen. As part of his internship Mark completed a spreadsheet mapping out and categorising all the burden of disease (DALY) studies in the European Region. During his internship he worked on the formation a new health information network in the European Region; the European Burden of Disease Network (EBoDN). The EBoDN was officially launched following a two day meeting in London on the 20/21st of September 2016. The Network hopes to bring together researchers from across Europe who are interested in burden of disease methodology and calculation with the aims of creating harmonised comparable data and promoting further research. It works in close collaboration with its WHO secretariat and the IHME.
