16th Annual De Pazzi Lecture"The Way We Die Now"

This Lecture Explores The Cultural, Historical And Medical Forces Which Have Led To Our Contemporary Uneasy Relationship With Death And Dying.

The Irish, Traditionally Very Comfortable Around The Dead, Are Not So Comfortable With The Dying. Half Of All Deaths In Ireland Take Place In Acute Hospitals, Institutions Which Are Not Ideally Suited For Care Of The Dying. Modern Scientific Medicine Can Unwittingly Make A Good Death Difficult. This Lecture Explores The Cultural, Historical And Medical Forces Which Have Led To Our Contemporary Uneasy Relationship With Death And Dying.
