Talk on Séamus Ennis, music collector
Ríonach uí Ógáin of the National Folklore Collection will share her long-term research on the field diaries of music collector Séamus Ennis.Using the diaries and official correspondence (1942-1946) of the Irish Folklore Commission music and song collector Séamus Ennis, the talk will illustrate the day-to-day life of the collector. Although based at head office of the Irish Folklore Commission, Ennis spent many periods, mostly in the west of Ireland, documenting song, music and lore. His diaries, and also correspondence, shed much light on the challenges of the work, many of which are relevant to similar work today.
