School of English Research Seminar

Jennifer Finney Boylan, Gender and Resistance

Activist, author, and professor Jennifer Boylan is one of the best known transgender women in the world. A bestselling writer, the national co-chair of GLAAD (the media advocacy organization for LGBTQ people worldwide) and a columnist for the New York Times, Boylan is also an alumna of University College Cork, where (as James) she taught from 1998-99 in the Department of English. She is currently the Anna Quindlen Writer in Residence at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York. In this research seminar, Boylan will speak of gender and the imagination— sharing recent work (including her new novel, LONG BLACK VEIL) as well as engaging in a conversation about the mutability of gender and identity.
