Launch of the Doctor of Clinical Psychology Training Programme at UCC
The School of Applied Psychology are delighted to launch the new Doctor of Clinical Psychology training programme at UCC in Cork.
New Directions in Mental Health Care in Ireland.Launch of the Doctor of Clinical Psychology Training Programme at UCC. At least 1 in 4 people suffer from poor mental health. This exacts costs on individuals and families but also on society through loss of human resource. As medical advances have led to increased survival rates, disability and care needs associated with long term conditions and an ageing population are challenging society. Psychological interventions are receiving unprecedented attention and investment from governments around the world as these offer some of the solutions to these problems. Underpinned by evidence bases such as NICE, psychological interventions are helping to change behaviour, alleviate common mental health conditions, reduce disability, promote social inclusion and the health of the nation. In this context we are delighted to launch the new Doctor of Clinical Psychology training programme at UCC in Cork. At this launch we highlight initiatives, here in the Southern region of Ireland, where psychology has led the way in tackling some of these challenges. We look forward to how the new programme at UCC will not only provide a fresh new and innovative workforce in the region, but through our HSE and other partnerships, will give impetus to new service developments. A number of initiatives will be discussed - full program available upon request.
