Fundamental Movement Skills Conference
The conference seeks to explore the development of fundamental movement skills, across the lifespan.
This collaborative conference brings together parents, practitioners, researchers and policy makers to address the development and maintenance of fundamental movement skills across the lifespan. The conference has been initiated by the collective work of Health Action Zone (HSE, Cork) and Sports Studies and Physical Education, UCC. Keynote addresses over the two days will address fundamental movement skill development from preschool, primary school, adolescence, disabilities, sport specific to old age. Speakers include Profs David Sugden, Caroline Bond, Phil Vickerman; Drs Susan Crawford, John Bradley, P.J. Smyth and Ms Naoimh McMahon. Each address will be supported by a choice of active workshops in the afternoons. Workshop facilitators include well known athlete Catherina McKiernan, Jeff Gomez, Wesley O'Brien, Kathy Kirwan, Brendan Bolger and others. The first evening of the conference will see the launch of two handbooks written by Dr Susan Crawford on FMS/Physical Activity for individuals with autism from both parent and practitioner perspectives. The conference will also establish a fundamental movement skill hub to support the development and dissimination of research and examples of good practice across a range of parents and practitioners in the field.
