Critical Perspectives on and Beyond the Therapy Industry
In this conference the value of talking therapies, the politics of the therapy industry, talking therapies as another expert system and other ways (beyond therapies) to support people in distress are explored and debated.
‘CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES ON AND BEYOND THE THERAPY INDUSTRY’ ‘Talking’ therapies have become increasingly central in dealing with all aspects of human life. This trend is now generally referred to as the ‘therapy industry’ (Moloney, 2013). This conference, now in its 7th year, aims to explore and debate critical perspectives on: - The value of talking therapies - The politics of the therapy industry - Talking therapies as another expert system - Other ways (beyond therapies) to support people in distress Keynote speakers: Wednesday 11 November 2015: 09.45 David Pilgrim is an Honorary Professor of Health & Social Policy at the University of Liverpool 12.00 Dina Poursanidou is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Service User Research Enterprise, Institute of Psychiatry, London 14.00 Malcolm Garland is a consultant psychiatrist in Dublin Thursday 12 November: 09.45 Jacqui Dillon (09.45) is a respected speaker, writer and activist 10.45 Wilma Boevink is an experiential expert, social scientist at the Trimbos-Institute 14.00 Rory Doody is a Recovery Development Advocate Concurrent Sessions: the conference also includes 42 concurrent workshops and oral presentations across the two days, in 6 sessions of 7 workshops per session, related to the conference theme.
