13th Annual Nursing and Midwifery Research Conference
Key conference themes include chronic disease self-management, maternal and child health and intellectual disability. Key note speakers include Kate Lorig, Professor of Medicine in the Stanford School of Medicine.
The key themes of the 2013 Nursing and Midwifery conference are self-management, primary care, maternal and child health and intellectual disability. The keynote speakers at the conference are Professor Kate Lorig Director of the Stanford Patient Education Research Center and Professor of Medicine in the Stanford School of Medicine and Professor Cecily Begley, Chair of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin. Professor Lorig is a leading expert in the area of self-management for chronic disease and has developed peer led self-management courses for people with chronic diseases.
Professor Cecily Begley areas of interest areas are: normal birth, midwifery-led care and expectant management of the third stage of labour, maternal health And Maternal Morbidity. She has led many research teams to successful completion of diverse projects.
The National Perinatal Epidemiology Centre and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University College Cork, will present the findings of two of their studies at the 13th Annual Nursing and Midwifery Research conference; Qualitative Analysis of Maternal Morbidities: the Patients Experience (in conjunction with the University Nijmegen) and Perinatal Mortality in Ireland 2011.
Dr. Patricia Leahy-Warren of the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork will discuss the similarities and differences between models of public health nursing in Ireland and Norway.
Additional areas of interest include, symptom burden, person centred care in intellectual disability services, palliative care and medication management. The full conference schedule can be viewed on the UCC website.
