Cork-Berlin initiative (CBI)

Meeting for those with an interest in strengthening connections between the cities of Cork and Berlin

This meeting will begin with apublic preview reading of Cork Europa Erlesen, edited & translated by Jürgen Schneider, published by Wieser Verlag, which will be officially launched at the Irish Embassy in Berlin in June of this year. We are delighted to welcome well-known Cork-based writer Cónal Creedon to this meeting. He will read from this intriguing anthology of short fiction, poetry and literary texts inspired by the city of Cork.The collection features the work of international literary icons that have visited the city down through the years – Jules Verne, James Joyce, John Cage, Sam Beckett and of course many stalwarts of the Cork literary cannon such as Ni Chuilleánain, Galvin, O’Connor, O’Faoilean – the list goes on… We also welcome Dr. Allen White, Research Officer (CACSSS), who will offer his perspective on funding opportunities under the Creative Europe European Co-operation projects scheme in the following areas: Architecture, Cultural heritage, Design, Applied Arts, Literature, Multimedia and new technologies, Performing arts, Visual Arts and Interdisciplinary projects This will be followed by a discussion of potential Cork/Berlin-related projects under this scheme. An update will be given on projects which are already underway: - an artists’ exchange project between the Backwater Artists’ Group, Cork, and Südwestpassage Berlin; - A green energy/sustainable islands collaboration project.
