Keeping Children Safe: Critical Times, Critical issues
Biennial child protection and welfare social work conferenceWe are pleased to announce the second Child Protection and Welfare Social Work Conference. This is a joint partnership between the Social Work Development Unit,U.C.C., the IASW (Southern Branch), and H.S.E. South. The conference will address the challenges and pressures which have been shaping child protection and welfare social work practice in recent years. Is the profession leading or being led, and where, ultimately, does it want to be? The conference follows on from the first Child Protection and Welfare Conference held in 2007 and the subsequent publication of the book, Child Protection and Welfare Social Work: Contemporary Themes and Practice Perspectives1 which incorporated the papers presented at the conference. For this conference the theme is “Keeping Children Safe: Critical Times, Critical Issues”. During the course of the day we will look at the positive and negative challenges posed for child protection and welfare social work, in the current political and economic climate. We have had organisational change and we are now in the midst of cost containment and service cutbacks. These are, indeed, turbulent times. We invite you to attend and to participate in this debate.
