FUAIM at the Cathedral: Eamonn Cagney & Niwel Tsumbu Duo
Niwel Tsumbu – guitar; Éamonn Cagney – percussion Éamonn and Niwel began working as a duo in 2005, and their immediate creative empathy ignited a very productive musical period in both their careers. Their resulting 2006 album, Nzela Molayi, was accompanied by numerous high-profile headline concerts, and critical acclaim, including Siobhan Long’s declaration in The Irish Times that “this duo had a cataclysm of moods and moves to share, unveiling a cavernous stash of redemptive music, and promise of much more to come.” Niwel and Éamonn have worked together on five original albums since and have contributed to many more. They have played continuously and intensively together, mainly in larger ensembles such as Treelan, Rithim, RiZA, Trasna and others. Now they are returning to the fertile and creative ground that is their duo.
