Blood & Bandage Festival of New Theatre 2009
Blood & Bandage Festival of new work at the Granary.Working artists are crucial to the cultural life of our nation – its lifeblood, so to speak. BLOOD+BANDAGE seeks to acknowledge and support our local theatremakers and to capitalise on the breadth of available talent so as to work towards creating a thriving work environment for practitioners and home-produced, high-quality theatrical experiences for audiences. The emphasis of BLOOD+BANDAGE is specifically on theatre; the creation of new theatre, the staging of new theatre and nurturing of established and emerging talent through workshops and ongoing new works programme, which will support new ideas and ideally generate work. Originally conceived in 2008 as a Cork-based festival of new theatre, BLOOD+BANDAGE has been evolving throughout 2009, so that the focus has shifted from the single annual event to the creation of a space that supports and encourages the process of creating new work through the provision of basic resources to unfunded artists. Some of the projects supported by and workshopped at BLOOD+BANDAGE went on to show at the Cork Midsummer Festival and at the Dublin Fringe. Several other projects will have a work-in-progress showing at the Granary in October 2009. Meridian and Granary will continue to pool resources in 2010 to facilitate BLOOD+BANDAGE’s evolution as a year-round space for theatrical experiment and development. The October 2009 Fest features four new works. Please see further entries for details.
