Perspectives: Julia Schmid
This series of free lunchtime artist talks accompanies the exhibition Fieldworks: Animal Habitats in Contemporary Art.
How are animals represented in visual art and how does this affect our understanding of their behaviours, habitats and lives? This series of free lunchtime artist talks accompanies the exhibition Fieldworks: Animal Habitats in Contemporary Art and explores how such depictions influence our perception of animal life and help us gain a better insight into our relationships with different species. Julia Schmid's work explores nature - fauna and flora - and how it is represented in urban and rural environments today. She analyzes the representation of nature in cultural institutions such as museums of natural history, zoos, displays and dioramas.
