Art + Ideas: Dr Emily Mark Fitzgerald

In this season’s Art & Ideas: The Decade of Centenaries, we consider how art can celebrate and interrogate historical events.

The decade between 1912 and 1922 was one of the most momentous of modern Irish history. Important centenaries to be com- memorated include the 1913 Lockout, the 1916 Rising, anniversaries relating to World War 1 and the right to vote for Irish women. In this season’s Art & Ideas: The Decade of Centenaries, we consider how art can celebrate and interrogate such historical events. Dr. Emily Mark Fitzgerald, 1pm, 30 January Emily Mark Fitzgerald is a lecturer at the School of Art History and Cul- tural Policy, University College Dublin. Her monograph Commemorating the Irish Famine: Memory and the Monument was published in 2013 by Liverpool University Press.
