During the month of September, four artists will discuss their developing practices and their work in the exhibition Then + Now. Sculptor Vivienne Roche will present the next talk in the series.
Artist’s Talks at the Glucksman
The Glucksman presents a month-long series of talks by artists from the exhibition Then & Now. Throughout September, artists will discuss the development of their respective practices and their contributions to the exhibition. This series will provide an opportunity to explore notions of progression in contemporary art practice and across a range of different media and approaches.
All talks are free and will take place at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery
Eilís O’Connell Thursday, September 3rd, 1pm
Artist Eilís O’Connell will discuss her artistic practice and her work in the exhibition, including the sculptures Curve to Edge and The Growth Dome. O’Connell’s works, which are often situated in public, outdoor spaces, explore the balance between natural, organic forms and man-made, geometric structures.
Vivienne Roche Thursday, September 10th, 1pm
Vivienne Roche’s sculptures investigate ideas of nature, architecture and light, and have ranged in scale from monumental public commissions to smaller, plinth-based works. This talk will look at the sculptural relief Echo Again and its relation to Roche’s wider practice.
Simon English Thursday, September 17th, 1pm
Simon English’s small-scale paintings portray ambiguous and anonymous scenes of landscapes, city streets, airports and highways. Looking at the Untitled Scenes from a Journey series, English will discuss notions of transience and isolation in his practice, and how such ideas are conveyed in the content and arrangement of his works.
Clare Langan Thursday, September 24, 1pm
Clare Langan’s practice uses video and photography to create highly atmospheric images and installations. Her works, including the film Metamorphosis, are evocative of ecological disasters, barren landscapes and deserted environments, and are often produced in extreme geographical locations and conditions.
