Viewpoints: Children's rights in imaginary spaces
Viewpoints explores the potent realm of children's literature as a place for young people to develop and understand their rights.Artists: Fatti Burke, Peter Donnelly, Roisin Hahessy, Chris Haughton, Chris Judge, Mary Murphy, Niamh Sharkey Curated by Tadhg Crowley and Fiona Kearney Viewpoints explores the potent realm of children's literature as a place for young people to develop and understand their rights. The exhibition has been developed in partnership with UCC School of Law to consider the ways in which our book shelves unleash not just our imagination, but a critical understanding of self and the world. The Glucksman commissioned seven Irish picture book authors to respond to different themes within the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Artists Fatti Burke, Peter Donnelly, Chris Judge, Roisin Hahessy, Chris Haughton, Mary Murphy and Niamh Sharkey have created new illustrations each installed in Gallery 2 as a large-scale mural painting. Young visitors are encouraged to read and create in the gallery space. We have delineated an 8th mural space which will show artworks by young people who participate in our education workshops and art activities. The exhibition builds on research by visiting Fulbright scholar, Professor Jonathan Todres, and has been further supported by Professor Caroline Fennell, Professor Ursula Kilkelly, and Dr. Conor O'Mahony.
