Global Speaker Series: Technology in a Time of Uncertainty
Professor John Naughton, Technology columnist with the Observer newspaper in conversation with John FitzGerald, Director of Information Services and University Librarian. Each month, a renowned expert from the global alumni community will discuss a topic of international interest with a specialist from UCC. This month, we are delighted to welcome Professor John Naughton, Technology columnist of the Observer newspaper and distinguished graduate of UCC, and John FitzGerald, UCC’s Director of Information Services and University Librarian, for a discussion on technology in a time of uncertainty. - Has the internet created the cooperative public sphere envisaged by Wikipedia and others? - How is data ownership influencing government? - Is technology conditioning human behaviour at the personal level? - With significant changes taking place in the sphere of physical teaching, what is the future for universities? Our January conversation will explore these questions and more. Throughout 2021, Alumni and Development will host a series of conversations with an international focus. Exploring both the challenges and opportunities facing us in this new world, the UCC Global Speaker Series will look at what we have learned over the past year and will investigate what the future holds. Please register by January 27 to receive a link to the live discussion. All welcome!
