10 Months, Fixed-Term, Whole-Time Post
Position Summary
Please note that this position can be filled at Post-Doctoral or Senior Post-Doctoral level, depending on qualification and experience of the successful candidate.
We are seeking to recruit a Post Doctoral/Senior Post Doctoral Researcher to work on the H-Wind Project.
There is an opportunity for green hydrogen generated by electrolysis from offshore wind energy in Ireland to replace the use of oil and natural gas, to contribute to security of energy supply, to reduce GHG emissions, and to serve export markets. These opportunities are being quantified in the industry-academia collaborative project H-Wind (Hydrogen from offshore Wind; www.marei.ie/h-wind) at the MaREI Centre. The H-Wind project is investigating hydrogen production from OWFs, customer value chain, policy recommendations, and procedures for hydrogen safety, and develop concepts for scalable and optimised offshore wind – hydrogen hubs suitable to the Irish, Celtic and Atlantic Seas.
The appointee will conduct innovative research as part of the H-Wind project under the direction of the project’s Principal Investigator Dr Paul Leahy in collaboration with other technical advisors and industry experts.
The researcher is expected to contribute the development and validation of mathematical and integrated models for offshore wind – hydrogen hubs, and to develop element models including balance of plant, platforms, power cables, and storage. The researcher will also support other aspects including project communications, engagement with stakeholders, safety requirements, and policy recommendations.
The appointee is expected to contribute to the delivery of the H-Wind project’s deliverables and communicate the project’s results at high-impact national and international events and support the Wind-to-Hydrogen toolkit, an open-source repository of simulation tools.
