Project Description

The objectives of the project are to identify appropriate anaerobic digestion technologies suitable for grass/grass silage digestion, determine the potential biogas/CH4 production per unit of energy crop and compare performance data for differing digester designs. Therefore four different anaerobic digester systems; Sequential Batch Leach-Bed Reactor coupled with Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB), Dry Batch Digester, Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) and CSTR coupled with UASB are designed, fabricated and placed in Biofuels Research Laboratory in Environmental Research Institute (ERI) for real time comparison with objective to suggest optimum digester configuration for producing grass biomethane.
