DAFOIL - Downtime Analysis for Offshore Facilities

DAFOIL - Downtime Analysis for Offshore Facilities

Project Title:  DAFOIL – Downtime analysis for offshore facilities

Researchers: Dr. Paul Leahy, Mr. Ian Evans, Prof. Tony Lewis, Prof. Alistair Borthwick

T: 021 4902017

E: paul.leahy@ucc.ie

Funding Body: Irish Government Petroleum Infrastructure Programme (PIP)

Project Type: Master’s Studentship

Period: 2014-2016

Project Description:

To exploit the offshore oil and gas reserves off the west coast of Ireland, the offshore industry must have confidence that its facilities, particularly ship-shaped facilities in deep water, can operate safely. Wave climate statistics have to be accurately assessed, especially for the likelihood of extreme water crest elevations and also the distribution of weather windows. These impact directly on the assessment of facilities’ downtime periods. The project aim is to develop a validated methodology for assessment of facilities downtime, applicable to oil and gas fields offshore of Ireland.
