Project type: SFS-11a-2014 - Optimizing space availability for European Aquaculture

Period: 01.03.2015 – 28.02.2018

Project Description:

The central goal of the AquaSpace project is to provide increased space of high water quality for aquaculture by adopting the Ecosystem Approach to Aquaculture (EAA) and Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) and to deliver food security and increased employment opportunities through economic growth. AquaSpace is focussed on users, real-world problems, practical solutions and achieving impact: the project participates with users at several levels to produce innovative applications, ready for implementation, to address spatial planning issues relating to aquaculture in the context of a changing environment. AquaSpace uses case-studies with close engagement of end-users throughout in an issues-focused, user-driven and scale-sensitive manner to test and assess relevant tools and document their utility and, where necessary, develop these further. The project will provide education and training on the purposes and use of the various tools and will synthesise project results for the widest possible range of knowledge exchange and dissemination.
