Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)
Our team collaborated with experts with lived experiences and Third-Party Partner representatives through Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) consultations. These sessions explored the challenges, barriers, and insights related to communication access across four key groups:
1. People living with stroke acquired communication impairments – Individuals navigating the challenges of communication difficulties acquired as a result of stroke and including impairments such as aphasia, dysarthria or apraxia of speech
2. People living with dementia – Those experiencing changes in memory and language that impact their ability to communicate.
3. Members of the Deaf community – A linguistic and cultural minority whose primary language is Irish Sign Language (ISL), advocating for communication rights and cultural and linguistic recognition.
4. Members of the Traveller community – A recognised ethnic minority group whose unique cultural identity intersects with communication challenges and access.
