I am a firm believer in Communicative Language Teaching to facilitate second language acquisition, especially in the area of Irish language pedagogy.

Tutor, Roinn na Gaeilge, UCC (1976 - to date, intermittently).

Tutor, Ionad na Gaeilge Labhartha, (1978 – to date).

I initiated a new evening course in UCC for teachers who teach post-primary pupils through Irish but who do not have any Irish language qualification.  I wrote and presently deliver coursework catering for their linguistic classroom needs and have successfully taught this programme since 2016.

I was recently awarded the John Coolahan Research Support Framework bursary and am researching the journey travelled in the creation of an Aonad Lán-Ghaeilge in Terence MacSwiney Community College.  My work is entitled The challenges and opportunities in setting up an Aonad Lán-Ghaeilge in a socially and economically deprived area.  I was a guest panellist at Féilte 2021 where I shared my research experience with participants.  My findings were presented to The Teaching Council in January 2022.
