EYCS Professional Practice
How does professional practice work?
Supervised work-based placements in diverse childhood-related settings form an integral part of this programme. Students will undertake a 10/12 week placement in both second and third year. Placements are organised by the Professional Practice Team. The Professional Practice placements provide opportunities for students to apply the theories they have internalised, and to experience working with children under the guidance of expert practitioners.
Guidance on Vaccination
- It is recommended that students have completed the childhood vaccination programme that pertains in Ireland. Of particular importance is that the students have completed a course of 2 doses of MMR vaccines in their lifetime. Immunity to Chicken Pox through previous naturally acquired infection or vaccination is also desirable.
- Hepatitis B vaccination maybe considered for students who are involved in the care of children with severe learning disability or challenging behaviour.
All students are subject to Garda Vetting on commencement of this programme. Further details are available here
