Cohort PhD Public Lecture: Knowledge in Action: Practice, Experience and Theory by Professor Joe Dunne. 6PM Fri 25th November 2011

Professor Joe Dunne, recently retired from St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin, will be the guest speaker on Fri week 25th November. The title of the lecture is: 'Knowledge in Action: Practice, Experience and Theory'. The lecture will be held in the Geography/Geology theatre, 6-7.30 PM

In this lecture Professor Dunne will outline and defend a conception of 'practice'
relevant to domains such as teaching, health care, psychotherapy and social
work. He will also offer a conception of practical knowledge and professional
judgement which is congruent with this conception and which, as he will argue,
is best fitted to inform good practice and to defend it against attempts
to subject it to the dictates of 'technical rationality'.
