Specific Learning Difficulty Screening Programme

The Disability Support Service provides a Dyslexia Screening Programme for registered students of UCC.

The service is free and helps students decide if they need to undertake a full diagnostic assessment or not. Whilst the University does not provide for a full diagnostic assessment, we can advise on the next steps students can take.

This service is provided during term time only from September to the start of April each year.

  • Screening will not provide a diagnosis.
  • Students will not be provided with accommodations in UCC for exams on the basis of the results of a screening, but advice can be offered on the supports available for all learners in the University.
  • The screening will provide you with information on your learning strengths and any potential difficulties, and advise on the next steps you can take.
  • The screening tool used is not a standardised test and the results of the screening should be read with caution. The decision to undertake or not to undertake a full educational psychologist assessment is ultimately a decision for the student. The DSS cannot accept responsibility for any outcomes. All factors should be considered by the student before a decision is made and decisions should not be based on the screening alone.

Dyslexia Screening Process

Before you fill in our screening application form you may find it useful to first take the British Dyslexia Association Adult Dyslexia Checklist

This service will be available again in September 2019.

If you have concerns about a specific learning difficulty you should first take the checklist above and if you want to act further having done so, you are best advised to contact the Dyslexia Association of Ireland or the Psychological Society of Ireland

Information on names and contact details of suitably qualified psychologists can be found here should you decide to proceed to a full assessment.
