Training & Advice

CDE Training Overview

The Centre for Digital Education has been providing training and support to UCC staff since its inception in February 2019. Before this, when it was known as the Instructional Design team, it provided regular training sessions for staff around educational technology.

Our role is to 'improve student learning through the best practice application of technology'. To achieve this, we engage with staff to ensure they are supported to use technology such as Canvas, Panopto and lately, MS Teams in their teaching practice. We differ from IT support in that we cannot answer very technical or administration queries. We can however demonstrate the features of many tools and provide advice on how these can be used in day-to-day teaching and learning activities.

In the first instance, we recommend all staff complete the Teaching with Technology course we have created on Canvas. This takes you through everything you need to know about Canvas, Panopto and MS Teams in UCC. There are additional resources available on our Canvas training page on this site.

At the moment, our training function is focussed on two principle areas - and what we call 'Teach Digi'. You might imagine Canvas training is around using that virtual learning environment, whereas Teach Digi is more focussed on the educational aspect - for example, how to engage learners, how to build interactivity, why recording lectures is important, and so on.
