FAQs

What is DHSI Atlantic?

DHSI Atlantic is a week-long summer school intended to introduce students and scholars to concepts, tools and techniques from the digital humanities.

How long are workshops?

Workshops take place over five full days, with one session in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Where is DHSI Atlantic?

DHSI Atlantic is hosted by University College Cork, which is located in Cork city, Ireland.

What is the connection between DHSI Atlantic and DHSI at the University of Victoria?

There is no formal relationship between DHSI Atlantic and the big, major DHSI gathering at the University of Victoria. However, collegial ties are maintained between the two summer schools, and Director of the Digital Humanities Summer Institute in Victoria, Prof. Ray Siemens, has been kind enough to allow DHSI Atlantic to use the DHSI brand to help build a new digital humanities summer school on the edge of Europe.

Can I take more than one workshop?

No, all workshops are offered over the full course of DHSI Atlantic's five days, and so it is not possible to enroll in two or switch between workshops.

How do I know which workshop I should take?

Indicative content for each workshop has been provided in the Courses section.

How much do workshops cost?

All workshops cost 300 euro. We are afraid that we are not in a position to offer scholarships at this point.

Do workshops require any pre-requisite learning?

All of our courses are introductory, but participants should know how to turn on a computer! :)

Do I need to bring a laptop?

Some of our workshops will be in computer labs, whereas others require participants to bring their own laptops. Please refer to workshop descriptions in the section to see what is required for a particular offering.

Will DHSI Atlantic run in future years?

We hope so, but we'll have to see what demand is like before making any decisions on future iterations.

Where can I learn more?

Any queries can be directed to the directors of DHSI Atlantic, Dr James O'Sullivan <james.osullivan@ucc.ie> and Dr Pedro Nilsson-Fernàndez <pfernandez@ucc.ie>.
