Outline

Course Overview: 

Day 1- Breathless conditions: COPD, fibrosis, Covid-19, identifying problems from case studies. Assessment, pathology, physiology and video. Physiology update, medical management, oxygen, nutrition and drug therapy, multidisciplinary management, pulmonary rehabilitation.

 

Day 2- Physiotherapy management of the breathless patient - handling, positioning, breathing re-education, exercise training, inspiratory muscle training, stress management and energy conservation. Case study, physiotherapy for sputum retention: humidification quiz, manual techniques, active cycle of breathing, devices, cough facilitation and suppression. Solving problems from case studies.

Ms Alex Hough is world-renowned for her work in the area of respiratory physiotherapy. Ms Hough has taught internationally for many years, with numerous publications, as outlined above, on all aspects of respiratory physiotherapy.
