Symposium to be held in the Aula Maxima, UCC

The Symposium aims to provide participants with an overview of ongoing debates in the fields of women's and gender studies, deepening their awareness of issues of gender equality and intersectionality, as well as their competences on the role played by higher education in fostering gender equality and diversity at a societal level.


Friday March 8th

6 p.m.  President to open symposium with invited keynote speaker (Pat O'Connor, UL) plus award of Equality Award 2019 to UCC Alumna.


Saturday March 9th 

9:30 Opening of symposium with brief address of welcome

9:45-11:00 Roundtable discussion with MAWS founders and alumni about the programme and its applicability, academic contribution to gender equality and the changing landscape of gender equality since the inception of the course

COFFEE - 15 minutes

11:15-13:00 Workshop on Ethnicity/Gender lntersectionality facilitated by Advance HE (Clare Pavitt from Advance HE coordinating this segment)

LUNCH - 60 minutes

2:00-4:00 Keynote (Maggie O'Neill, Sociology, UCC) with panel discussion "Perspectives on intersectionality and gender equality"
