Outline

According to Guy Claxton (2018), at the deepest layer, learning design seeks to incubate and strengthen learning dispositions such as curiosity, resilience and independence to shape positive attitudes and behaviours towards learning.
In this workshop, we will seek to apply this metaphor of learning design to a very small part of language learning assessment, the use of effective,
formative marking techniques.
By modifying our own approaches to marking and formative
assessment in a very simple way, we not only improve the knowledge and learning of pupils but we can also encourage students to become
increasingly independent in their learning whilst also trying to not lose sight of other pedagogical considerations in the MFL classroom such as
teaching through the target language.
This workshop promises to arm you with a number of quick, easily applicable techniques that you can apply in your next MFL class, which will not only help to foster these attitudes but will also reduce‚Äč your marking burden.
