Front-line social work managers and supervisors are the keystone of the service they represent. Their knowledge, attitudes, decisions, value base, and behaviours set the climate and standards for good practice. Good supervision is inextricably linked to good outcomes for service users while on the contrary ineffective supervision is linked to poor outcomes (Beinart & Clohessy, 2017; Morrison, 2009). Therefore, it is critical that front-line managers and supervisors are upskilled through professional training in supervision if the drive to improve the quality of services to vulnerable service users is to succeed.

Organised by the School of Applied Social Studies, and delivered over five days, the overall aim of the course is to equip social work supervisors with the knowledge and skills to supervise students/staff effectively. The programme is targeted at social work supervisors who have responsibility for students/staff working with service users within the social/health/education care context.
