Two day workshop: Wednesday 4th September and Thursday 5th September 2019

This CPD workshop has been organised by the School of Applied Social Studies primarily for potential Social Work Practice Teachers who hope to take social work students on placement in the future.  It would also be beneficial for Social Workers in the field who may not have taken students for some time and wish to have their skills in practice teaching refreshed and updated.

There is an expectation that those attending will be available to take a student in January or September 2020.

The Course will be formally opened by Professor Cathal O’Connell, Head of the School of Applied Social Studies and course contributors include:  Dr Carmel Halton, Director of MSW, Carmel also teaches on the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Fieldwork Practice and Supervision (Social Work).  Joanne Rose, Fieldwork Coordinator; Caroline Shore Lecturer and Tutor on MSW who recently carried out research into Social Work students’ experiences of how ready and prepared they are for practice placement; Simone McCaughren, Director, Lecturer and Tutor on BSW.  Dr Kenneth Burns, Senior Lecturer and Deputy Course Director of Master in Social Work programme and a research associate with ISS21.  Share O’Meara, Social Worker and Practice Teacher with experience of working in areas such as Child Protection, Probation and Foster Care, IASW and FORSA member.  Linda Doran, Head of Disability Support Services.
