Where will I be conferred?
Your conferring ceremony will take place in Devere Hall, Áras na Mac Leinn / Student's Centre. Once the ceremony has concluded, graduates and guests are invited to visit the Aula Maxima, North Wing, to spend time with class mates and take photographs with friends in the universities most prestigious venue.
What to wear
It is the policy of UCC that each graduand must wear the appropriate gown and coloured hood for his/her degree during the formal ceremony.
The wearing of hats as part of conferring attire is entirely optional in University College Cork. The university directs students to decide on the wearing of the hat entirely as a matter of personal choice, without prejudice.
McGinley's Academic Gown Hire will be stationed on campus on the day of your conferring ceremony to facilitate the collection and return of academicals.
McGinley's ask that academicals are reserved at least one week prior to the conferring ceremony. To book and pay on-line, please visit: www.mcginleygowns.ie
Please note that queues should be anticipated on the day of your conferring; therefore we ask that you allow enough time to collect your gown before the roll call. As this is a formal occasion, please note that smart/neat dress is essential.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission requires us to inform all students that they are free to search for academic gowns on their own behalf. This is subject to the academic dress requirements set out in Academic Dress of the National University of Ireland being satisfied. http://www.nui.ie/publications/docs/AcademicDressBooklet.pdf
How many guests can I bring?
Each graduand may invite two guests to attend the ceremony and reception. These tickets (two guest tickets for the ceremony and two guest tickets for the reception) must be collected prior to your ceremony on the day at the Ticket Collection Desk located in The Hub. Tickets will be issued to the student being conferred only. Unfortunately for security reasons, your guests cannot collect the tickets on your behalf so please allow plenty of time for this.
Please keep these tickets safe, as lost/forgotten tickets will not be replaced.
Due to limited capacity, requests for extra tickets will not be considered.
Where can I park?
There is no car parking available on campus and parking around UCC is severely restricted. Please do not attempt to access the campus by car.
Graduands are advised to avail of UCC's guest pay car parks located at Perrott's Avenue (off College Road) and Perrott's Inch (off Gaol Cross). Parking will also be available by using UCC's Park and Ride facilities.
What do I do if I am unable to attend my ceremony?
If you are unable to attend your conferring ceremony, you will be conferred In Absentia and your parchment will be posted to your college-registered home address within 10 working days of the conclusion of the conferring ceremonies. Please ensure that the postal address we have for you is up to date. You can do this by checking the details we currently hold for you on MyStudentPortal and updating them directly.
Will there be an official photographer?
