Baku, Azerbaijan 4th-11th August 2019

The International Olympiad of Informatics took place the 4th to the 11th of August in Baku. 88 nations selected their best 4 students to compete. The selection process involved half a million students in the world. It is the biggest scientific olympiad with mathematics being the first.

Andrea Visentin and Federico Toffano from the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, University College Cork acted respectively as Team Leader and Deputy of the Irish group selection.

The students that took part in the competition are: Kieran Hogan, Andrew Nash, Caolan Fleming, and Oisin Davey.

It has been a successful trip. In a competition dominated by China, USA and Russia, Kieran scored a Bronze medal and the others performed well.

UCC can retain and keep investing in these talents. Kieran Hogan and Andrew Nash will start a BSc programme in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology in September 2019.

We are very pround of our young programmers and computer coding team.

From all of us in Computer Science, UCC well done to everyone.
